Recommended: Store API keys in backend/.env (e.g., OPENAI_API_KEY=sk-...). The admin panel reads from .env first. You can optionally override with an encrypted DB key below — useful for testing or when you can't restart the server.

Custom providers: Add any OpenAI-compatible API (e.g., models.kuos.ai, Ollama, OpenRouter). Set the Base URL and the gateway will auto-detect the OpenAI-compatible endpoint. Env fallback: PROVIDER_KEY_API_KEY.
